Profile

Ha Bui is a Research Scientist in the Department of Nuclear, Plasma, and Radiological Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and the Associate Director of the Socio-Technical Risk Analysis (SoTeRiA) Research Laboratory. His research advances probabilistic risk assessment (PRA) for operating and advanced nuclear power plants, with emphasis on spatiotemporal modeling of coupled human-physics-digital technologies, validation and uncertainty quantification with sparse data, and risk-informed decisionmaking and regulation. His work integrates human reliability analysis, AI-driven automation, and advanced modeling and simulation technologies to support safety and decision-making in complex socio-technical systems.

Besides academia, Ha Bui spent more than a decade at Power Engineering Consulting JSC No. 2 (PECC2), a key consulting company within Vietnam Electricity, where he held engineering and leadership positions supporting thermal power plant planning, design, construction, and digital capability development, as well as site investigation and feasibility study for Vietnam’s nuclear power projects.
